Trolley and diesel. Siemens has been licensed to operate an amphibious vectron

The fuel tank of the locomotive has a volume of 2600 liters, the highest operating speed is 160 km / h.

At the end of October, the German Federal Railway Authority (EBA) approved the operation of the Siemens Vectron Dual Mode two-source locomotive on German tracks. The locomotive can run on electricity from trolleys as well as on diesel propulsion. Siemens already has orders for one hundred of these machines.

“On electrified sections of the route, the locomotive is operated as fully electric, on sections of the route without overhead lines, it is possible to switch the locomotive to diesel mode, which eliminates the need to replace locomotives.” said Siemens manager Albrecht Neumann. The German railway network is approximately 60 percent electrified.

The Vectron Dual Mode locomotive is designed for 15 kV AC voltage. In both operating modes (diesel and electric), the traction power on the wheel circumference reaches 2,000 kW. The fuel tank of the locomotive has a volume of 2,600 liters, the highest operating speed is 160 km / h.
