KOŠICE. Tears welled up in his eyes, he was moved.
“I almost passed out on the pitch when I imagined that Miki (his nickname, editor’s note) would play in the Conference League group,” commented Trnava captain Martin Mikovič in an interview for RTVS.
Although he is the smallest (167 centimeters, note), he talks the most out of all Spartak Trnava players. He jokes the most. He is jovial, open and direct.
“Thank God that we stay overnight in Košice, because I don’t know what would happen on the way. We know how it is in such situations, when the Slovaks succeed,” Mikovič added.
In the cabin, he was banging his kick on a tin box. “Footballs, cleats and pads…” He roared to the point of hoarseness.
His Trnava advanced to the group stage of the European Conference League (EKL). In the rematch of the EKL playoffs, Spartak defeated Ukrainian SC Dnipro-1 2:1 after extra time.
Trnava will get millions
“I am proud of the entire Trnava, from the booth to the management in the VIP and of course the fans who created the atmosphere. We all went to the stop,” Mikovič added.
Trnava will appear in the group stage of the European competition after five years.
“I don’t want people to say that I’m always praising the coaches, but they’re doing a great job. How they prepare us tactically. The players will believe it,” praised the Spartak captain.
He can look forward to generous bonuses. What kind?
