Triumphant first visit of the Sofia Philharmonic in Ljubljana – 2024-08-25 10:19:04

With great success, the Sofia Philharmonic and the National Philharmonic
choir made their debut at the 72nd edition of the prestigious music festival in
Ljubljana on Thursday night. The audience in the Slovenian capital cheered
the Bulgarian musicians, led by maestro Nayden Todorov, stormed.
The two-hour program featured the music of John Williams from
iconic films such as “Star Wars”, “Harry Potter”, “Sam
home”, “Indiana Jones” and others.
The dramaturgical line that maestro Todorov had built translated
the audience through different emotional states – from the rocking solo
of concertmaster Ani Ivanova (“Schindler’s List”) to the epic
Imperial March from “Star Wars” – repeated as an encore
audience insistence.
In the first row, Uros Laiowitz followed the concert with visible satisfaction –
world-renowned Slovenian conductor and teacher of the Minister of
the culture of Bulgaria at the Vienna University of Music. Maestro
Todorov greeted him from the stage with a heartfelt speech that ended with
a joking comparison between Darth Vader and his own political
position at the moment.
Among the audience were the Bulgarian ambassador to Slovenia Krasimir Bojanov,
the Slovenian ambassador to Bulgaria Natasha Bergel, ambassadors from
European Union, the current and former Ministers of Culture of
Slovenia, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture Todor Keranov,
as well as the members of the city administration of Ljubljana.
Festival director Darko Burlek immediately after the concert, elated
extended an invitation to Maestro Todorov and the Philharmonic for a repeat
visiting in 2026.
The musicians themselves shared their excitement at being part of this one
a prestigious forum that put the finale of their summer vacation.
From September 1 to 15, the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a series of
concerts in Bucharest with some of the biggest names from the opera scene, among

which Rolando Villazon, Roberto Alania, Emily Pogoretz, Piotr Bechala and
many others.
The Philharmonic opens the music season in Sofia on September 19 with
newly awarded Opus Classic Award Gauthier Capuchon,
world-renowned, Grammy-winning violinist, Augustin Hadelich again
conducted by the Minister of Culture Nayden Todorov.
