Ita84, the Italian national team of notaries, won the South American championship played in Lima: the Azzurri coached by Simone Chiantini beat Argentina 1-0 in the final. The contribution of three players from Palermo to the team was decisive: Salvatore Marandano, Roberto Indovina and Elio Di Vitale. Marandano was the best player of the tournament, scoring five goals, all decisive. The notary Indovina, metronome of the midfield, played an excellent tournament, playing all the matches and proving to be glacial from eleven metres. Di Vitale showed an excellent performance as a central defender in the final.
The Italian national team was first through group A, played with Argentina, Romania and Uruguay. 1-1 draw in the debut match against the Albiceleste, then 2-1 success against Romania and 1-1 draw against Uruguay. In the semi-final Ita84 beat Mexico 2-0, thus gaining access to the final against Argentina. Marandano’s goal was decisive, handing the trophy to the Italian notaries. First success for Ita84 at the South American championship: in 2018 they achieved a second place in Buenos Aires, in 2022 third in the edition played in Montevideo.
For striker Marandano, an edition worth remembering: double against Romania, goal against Uruguay, goal against Mexico and decisive goal in the final against Argentina.
