David Trinkberger is frustrated and perplexed
Crefeld The defender is disappointed after losing the duel with his brother Luca in Freiburg. The pressure on manager Leif Strömberg increased after the second consecutive defeat.
After the home defeat of Krefeld Pinguine in DEL2 on Sunday a week ago against Kassel (2: 4) the fan clubs and parts of the team and the referees still considered it a one-off slip from which one had to draw the right lessons, the defeat call to Freiburg emerged speechless, at least among some actors. Press spokesman Mark Thiel, who regularly provides short match reports and commentary from coaches and players to media representatives, was unable to contact a player for comment following the 4-1 defeat in Freiburg.
But coach Leif Strömberg spoke at the press conference. The trainer made it clear that there was sufficient information on Freiburg. He said: “Your performance is no surprise. But we weren’t well prepared after the long drive and we were always a step behind from the start.”
Striker Marcel Müller, voted player of the month in September thanks to the vote of the fans by the trade magazine Eishockey-News, on Thursday after training admitted that the preparation of the game by the coaching team was very professional, including the video analysis. Now, of course, the question arises as to why the team is not putting the required things on the ice. Is there a communication problem?
It is clear that sporting director and CEO Sergey Saveljev is putting pressure on the coach. This became clear in his statements after the match against Kassel and also last Thursday in the weekly press conference. The role played by Councilor Igor Zakharkin, who is said to have been involved in Strömberg’s engagement, in this confusing situation is not entirely clear at the moment. Savelyev and Zakharkin were not at the Freiburg stadium.
Defender David Trinkberger was one who had imagined the appearance of the Penguins in Breisgau very differently. For the 196 cm tall defender it was the first time on the ice in a match with his brother Luca, 19 months younger than him. “There were ten people from our family at the stadium and they gave us great support. It was very good for both of us,” said the older of the two brothers, who moved to Krefeld from Düsseldorf in the summer.
His girlfriend and the mother of the two ice hockey players could not be present. “My girlfriend stayed in Krefeld and our mother couldn’t come, she works as a teacher at a school in Landshut and she had to teach early on Monday. But we will play against each other three more times, then it will definitely work,” he said. David said on the record.
Of course, he also hopes to win against his brother. “We haven’t made a bet in advance, but there may be something else on the way.” And the 26-year-old also thought about the performance of the penguins on Sunday: “It wasn’t a good match on our part. The first third was really bad, after which we came back, but in the end we didn’t have enough legs.” When asked why exactly no points were scored, the defender said: “I am frustrated and at some point I lose. It was not our level. We have to analyze it carefully and fix the little things.”
By the way, on Friday there is another special match scheduled for Trinkberger, when the Yayla Arena takes on Landshut at 7:30 pm: “I grew up there and took my first steps on the ice. I know some other guys there. If we play as we did against Freiburg, we will not be successful, ”said Trinkberger, who brought with him the experience of 83 DEL matches in Krefeld.
