The slight decline in steel production was due to a 60-day shutdown of one of the two blast furnaces. The company renovated it after more than twenty years of continuous operation. “The outage of pig iron production associated with the shutdown of the blast furnace was reflected in the sales balance of semi-finished products and other products,” said Macková.

As in previous years, wire had the largest share in sales volume. The company sold 962 kilotons last year, which was slightly less than the previous year’s 1017 kilotons. “Almost 72 percent went to foreign markets, most often to the countries of the European Union, where the company supplies the vast majority of its production,” said the spokeswoman.

The smelter invested almost 1.7 billion crowns last year and its investment plan this year is the same. “We will make progress, among other things, on projects whose implementation will enable the reduction of CO2 emissions. Modernization actions aimed at increasing the added value of steel bars or the automation of production processes in the railway transport segment will be crucial for operating on the steel market, “said Ján Moder, First Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
