The saint can be visited in the hermitage between the 15th and the 22nd, but the crowds are canceled
The mayor of Trigueros, Cristóbal Romero (PSOE), accompanied by the local priest, Rafael Benítez, and the president of the San Antonio Abad Commission, Carmelo Flores, has announced this Thursday the suspension of the San Antonio Abad 2021 Festivities in the town as a preventive measure in the current scenario of a pandemic by Covid-19.
In a message released by the City Council, Romero has indicated that «The first thing is health»Reason why it has been decided that the most convenient thing is the suspension of these parties that are celebrated in the month of January.
The highlight of this celebration are the food drives led by residents of the town from their balconies that take place at the passage of the Saint, which processions and stops at more than 3,500 houses in the municipality which are open for almost 36 hours without interruption.
Therefore, it has been decided the suspension of all those acts that involve agglomeration such as the exit of the saint to the public thoroughfare. Thus, the saint can be visited in the hermitage from the 15th to the 22nd but it will be closed on the central days of the celebration, that is, 23, 24 and 25 January to avoid crowds.
Likewise, the bulk of the festival is celebrated during that weekend, but since the beginning of January there are acts, such as the traditional pig walks, -initiative that is maintained, and the bonfires known as ‘las Candelas’, for their part they have been canceled.
Finally, the mayor has appealed to responsibility and common sense on those days to avoid contagions in the town, since he has stressed that the central thing is to preserve the health of the brunette.
