Police officers found the 51-year-old man standing behind his car, Franz-Dieter Ankner told parliamentarians at a special meeting of the Interior Committee of the western state of Rhineland-Palatinate. “He looked at the emergency services with a grin,” said Ankner.
Police officers immediately picked him up. The man is charged with murder, attempted murder and serious bodily harm. The prosecutor’s office says he intended to “kill or at least injure as many people as possible.” The motive remains unclear.
