Tricksters relieved a retired couple from Ahlen of a four-digit amount of cash. They sent the two a message via messenger, police said.
The scammers pretended to be the couple’s daughter. She urgently needs money and has no online banking herself, the alleged daughter explained. The people of Ahlen thought that the message really came from their daughter and transferred the money to the account number given in the message.
The police again warns against transferring money. If such a message comes, she advises cutting off contact and reaching out to the real family member – using the known number.
In addition, the police asks to secure the chat history and advises never to pass on private and sensitive data to others.
