This code, hidden in your device’s settings, can reveal things about your iPhone, like whether you sold a new or refurbished device.
Tech guru Aakaanksh shares the tip in a video that has been viewed 12.1 million times and is approaching one million likes.
In a short video, he says: “Watch it before you buy a new iPhone. Go to Settings and press About (info).
“And then look at the beginning of the model number. If it starts with M which stands for “New” and F stands for “Refurbished”.
It adds that if you have the letter P as the first letter in the code, it stands for Custom, while the letter N stands for Replacement.
The TikTok star continued: “The letters ultimately tell you where the phone should be sold. Share it with your friends so you don’t get scammed.
According to the manufacturer, LL means USA, CH means China, C means Canada and F means sold in France.
Additional codes include JP, which stands for Japanese, PY, which stands for Spanish. and the letter B stands for England and Ireland.
However, refurbished phones aren’t always bad, as companies like Apple often test their products intensely to ensure that customers are getting a reliable device.
On their website, Apple states, “Every Apple Certified Refurbished product goes through a rigorous repair process that includes comprehensive functional testing, with specific savings of up to 15 percent.”
They add that these refurbished devices contain “genuine Apple replacement parts (as required) that have been thoroughly cleaned and inspected.”
“Refurbished iOS devices will come with a new battery and case. Each device will come with all accessories, cables and operating systems,” Apple said.
If you purchased a refurbished phone from Apple, you’ll get the standard one-year limited warranty “with every Apple Certified Refurbished product.”
However, this iPhone trick helps users check if the seller is honest about whether the device is new or where it came from.
If your Apple device is intended to be sold in other countries, you may experience some problems.
