The answer is it depends. As mentioned before, WhatsApp has launched a feature that removes the online warning. The tool is recent but is already being used by many users. When someone opts in to the feature, it’s impossible to know if they’re online. It is important to make it clear that the idea of the social network is precisely to protect the privacy of those who use the messenger. Therefore, it makes no sense to launch the tool but allow a cheat to circumvent its rules.
When the person does not choose to withdraw the notice, it is possible to know when the person is online. In the case of Instagram, for example, there is a list of all the followers that are currently online. Facebook has a similar feature where it shows all of your online friends. In WhatsApp there is no list.
So, to know if someone is online, you need to enter the conversation with the person. Just look in the messenger list and click on the conversation. The online notice appears under the contact’s name. You can also search for the contact using the search tool. Just click on the magnifying glass icon on the home page and type the name of the contact the user wants to know if he is online.
It is worth remembering that if nothing appears, it can mean two things: that the person is not online or that the person has deactivated the warning.
How to disable online warning
Just access the settings. Afterwards, the user must choose the ‘Last Seen and Online’ option. Next, the user needs to disable the Last Seen option. At the bottom, under ‘Online’, you should choose ‘Same as Last Seen’.

Since the WhatsApp launched the tool to remove the warning, many applications now offer a way to show if the user is online. In fact, using these apps puts the security of whoever installed them at risk. After all, apps can steal a person’s data. What’s more, it violates the messenger’s privacy policy.
