TV maker Ellen Jens (83) has died. She was director and producer of numerous successful VPRO TV programs.
She started her career at VPRO in 1964, initially as a director and production assistant. Her collaboration with Wim T. Schippers began in 1972. With Gied Jaspars and Wim van der Linden they made TV shows that were equally acclaimed and reviled, but always controversial, such as From Fred Haché Show, Van Oekel’s Disco Corner, It’s that late again! (about nightclub owner Waldo van Dungen)The smiling shaving brush in Looking for Yolanda.
Later Jens also directed the book programs Here is… Adriaan van Dis in VPRO Books and the arts program The Plantation, presented by Hanneke Groenteman.
She also directed and produced the well-known satirical program for many years trash can by Kees Prins, Michiel Romeyn and Herman Koch. “I never saw her stressed, anything was possible with her,” Romeyn said about her.
Jens was married to Schippers and at the same time had a relationship with writer and program maker Adriaan van Dis.
