It is a tribute to the great Italian director and screenwriter Mauro Bolognini, on the centenary of his birth, Francesco Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur, which Rai Cultura proposes on Wednesday 28 June at 9.15 pm on Rai 5. The show was recorded in 1979 at the Philharmonic Theater of Verona. Bolognini also oversaw the television direction. The protagonist is the great soprano Raina Kabaivanska, who was one of the greatest interpreters of Cilea’s masterpiece. Beside her Eleonora Jankovic, Franco Tagliavini, Guido Mazzini, Antonio Zerbini, Tullio Pane and Giovanna Santelli. Edoardo Muller is busy on the podium.
Adriana Lecouvreur was performed for the first time at the Teatro Lirico in Milan on November 6, 1902. Cilea and librettist Arturo Colautti drew the subject from the drama Adrienne Lecouvreur by Eugène Scribe and Ernest Legouvé, who in turn were inspired by the historical figure of Adrienne Couvreur , the famous French theater actress who in the eighteenth century revolutionized the way of acting by seeking a more natural expressiveness.
