The well-known triangular chocolate bars from Toblerone will soon go through life without the text ‘of Switzerland’. From next year, part will also be produced in Slovakia.

The American owner Mondelez wants to not only produce the world-famous bars in the current factory in Bern, but to expand to Slovakia from next year. To be able to produce more, it sounds.

According to Mondelez, the announced step is necessary to meet the growing international demand, but is very sensitive in Switzerland. Since 1908, Toblerone has only been made in Bern. That is also stated on the packaging.

Now Toblerone is pursuing successful Swiss products such as Milka. That chocolate is no longer only made in Switzerland and can therefore no longer be sold as Swiss chocolate. Toblerone is even more sensitive because the logo contains both the Matterhorn and the bear from the Bern coat of arms, De Telegraaf knows.

Seven billion Toblerone bars are made every year, 97 percent of which are exported to 120 countries. The triangular bars, for example, can be bought in duty-free shops at almost every airport in the world. According to Mondelez, a Toblerone bar is sold every two seconds in such stores.

In order to be able to continue to meet this worldwide demand, production will take place in Bern as well as in the new factory in Slovakia from next year.
