Swedish director Ruben Estlund’s film “Triangle of Sadness” triumphed at the European Film Academy awards ceremony on Saturday.
“Sad Triangle” was recognized as the best European film, and Estlund won the best director award and also the best screenplay award, while actor Zlatko Buric won the best actor award for his role in the movie.
On the other hand, Luxembourg actress Vicky Krieps was recognized as the best actress for her role in the film “Corsage”.
The film “The Good Boss” directed by Fernando Leon de Aranoa was recognized as the best European comedy.
In the “European animated feature film” category, in which Latvian director Signe Baumane’s work “My marriage project” was also nominated, the prize was awarded to French director Alain Ughetto’s film “No dogs allowed or to the Italians”.
The best documentary award went to the unfinished film “Mariupole 2” by director and cameraman Mantas Kvedaraviča, who died in the war, which is a co-production of Lithuania, France and Germany.
The Slovenian and French film “Granny’s Sexual Life” was recognized as the best short film.
The FIPRESCI “European Discovery” prize was instead awarded to the film “Mazais törmenis” (“Small body”) by Italian director Laura Samani.
The European Film Academy awards ceremony was held in the Harpa concert hall in Reykjavík. About 600 guests attended. The ceremony was broadcast both online and on big screens in cinemas in 29 European countries, including Latvia.
