Triangle drama ended in tragedy

The Greek ambassador to Brazil, Kyriakos Amiridis, was stabbed by police officer Sergio Moreira (29), who is said to have had an affair with Amiridis’ wife Françoise Oliveira (40).

Now write BBC that Moreira has admitted the murder and has been sentenced to 22 years in prison, while Oliveira has been sentenced to 31 years.

Found in burnt out car

In the days before the murder, Amiridis and his wife had traveled to the city of Nova Iguacu in Brazil to spend the Christmas holidays with Oliveira’s family.

On December 28, the former ambassador was reported missing by his wife, who then claimed that the man had left their apartment without explanation, and then drove off in a rental car.

The next day, the car was found burnt out under a bridge just outside the city of Rio de Janeiro. Inside the car lay Amiridis’ body. Shortly after the discovery, Oliveira and Moreira, as well as a third person, were arrested for being involved.

Investigators found blood stains on a sofa in the apartment where the couple had lived, and it is believed that he was killed there before his body was moved. Moreira is most likely trying to burn the ambassador’s body to cover his tracks.

According to the BBC, one of the judges in the trial described the murder as “bestial”.

– Had no choice

Moreira has admitted that he had a romantic relationship with the ambassador’s wife. He has previously claimed that Oliveira was abused by her husband, and that the three parties ended up in a heated discussion that got out of control.

He further claims that he strangled Amiridis in self-defense, after the 59-year-old allegedly took out a weapon and aimed it at the 29-year-old. The wife was convicted of planning the murder.

– Moreira has told that he ended up in a physical quarrel with the ambassador and had no choice but to kill him, police inspector Evaristo Pontes has previously stated to Sky News.

The police inspector considers the explanation highly unlikely and believes Moreira went to the apartment with an intention to kill Amiridis.
