Munich (dpa) – After the death of his partner, the father of a now five-year-old son sued her alternative practitioner for 170,000 euros in compensation for pain and suffering – now there is a comparison of 45,000 euros in the room. The Munich Higher Regional Court proposed this amount, said Maik Spiering from Landshut and confirmed a report by “Bild am Sonntag”. But “I still leave all options open, in consultation with my lawyer. I am ready to go to the BGH if it were really necessary,” he told the German press agency on Sunday.

Spiering’s partner was suffering from cancer, but was treated with snake venom by the defendant alternative practitioner, stopped radiotherapy and died shortly afterwards, in October 2015. The public prosecutor’s office had stopped criminal investigations; Spiering’s lawsuit for compensation for pain and suffering was dismissed by the Passau Regional Court. If Spiering and the alternative practitioner do not come to an agreement out of court, the Munich Higher Regional Court will announce a judgment on March 25th.

Spiering said the court had proposed € 30,000 in compensation for pain and suffering for his son, payable in installments up to his 21st birthday. He himself should receive 15,000 euros to support the child. But he wants to finalize the matter this year.
