Krefeld (AP) – A 55-year-old man from Berlin was caught with 50 kilograms of heroin, built into the top of his convertible, on the way back from the Netherlands. This morning (9.15 am) he has to answer at the Krefeld district court for drug smuggling on a large scale. The heroin, with a street sales value of almost three million euros, was discovered during an inspection. At the police station, the man claimed to have bought the car cheaply shortly beforehand. He didn’t know anything about the drugs in the folding top.

If convicted, the accused will face several years in prison. Just last Friday a truck driver in Mönchengladbach was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for smuggling 21 kilograms of cocaine and heroin.
