The trial of those implicated in the corruption of the judicial system continues. At the Casablanca Court of Appeal which is hearing this case, it is time for expectation. According to the daily Assabahwhich looks back on this trial in its weekend edition of June 3 and 4, everyone is waiting for the rest of this judicial soap opera after 25 people have been brought before the King’s Attorney General.
The persons in question were investigated by the BNPJ and are being prosecuted for corruption, intermediation and the collection of commissions for their services. Their fate was uncertain until the investigating judge decided on Friday afternoon to prosecute part of the group in preventive detention and the other in provisional release, explains the daily.
All the members were heard on the same day, in the early hours of the day, by the King’s Attorney General. According to Assabah, businessmen, a flight attendant and the owner of a car rental agency are among the group. Judging by the volume of the dismissal order written by the BNPJ which includes all the facts of which they are accused, we can say that they risk a lot.
The public prosecutor began the interrogation of the suspects at 4:30 am, specifies the daily. Around 1 p.m., the examining magistrate took over. He began, in turn, the interrogation of the 25 defendants referred by the prosecution. He finally decided to prosecute ten of them on bail, the others were placed under a warrant of committal. They were imprisoned in the civil prison of Oukacha.
At the same time, the public prosecutor at the Casablanca Court of Appeal also heard a magistrate from the same jurisdiction as well as two deputy public prosecutors. A second magistrate called to appear did not appear for unknown reasons, underlines the daily.
Unlike the other defendants, these people who benefit from the judicial exception procedure left the court in the early hours of the same day. According Assabah, we do not yet know the nature of the decision that has been taken against them. We therefore do not know if their file has been closed, or if they are still being prosecuted.
In any case, as they benefit from a special procedure, their file will be transferred, in the event of prosecution, to the Court of Cassation. The latter will then decide to which jurisdiction it will entrust the investigation of their case.
That said, the daily notes, other names were mentioned during the interrogations, especially after the examining magistrate listened to the recordings in the elements of the file linked to this case. Thus, the names of certain lawyers have been mentioned, which undoubtedly implies that they will be summoned in turn. This soap opera broke, recalls the daily, last July. The case had the effect of an earthquake in the courts of Casablanca.
