Trial of Spartans: Eyes on Stiga – In the Electoral Court the next act –

After an interruption, the trial continues today, October 31, with defendants 11 former and current members of the Spartans party, who are on trial for defrauding the electorate, after criminal prosecution, as it was judged that behind their participation in the last parliamentary elections , the Golden Dawn inmate Ilias Kasidiaris was disguised as the party’s leader.

The critical testimony of Stiga

The trial for the former and current MPs of the Spartans is expected to continue today, probably with the testimony of the president of the party, Vassilis Stiga, who has not been prosecuted, as it was on the occasion of his own statements that the investigation of justice began, and indeed due to its seriousness, was personally conducted by the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Georgia Adelini.

Vasilios Stigas, who is the key witness in the ongoing trial, had claimed in public statements that in his party there were behind-the-scenes movements that referred to the Greek Mafia, while he had photographed the role of Ilias Kasidiaris speaking of “Don Corleone” .

Moreover, based on Stiga’s complaints and the investigation of the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, the case was prosecuted both for the 11 who were elected with the Spartan party, and for Ilias Kasidiaris, who is being prosecuted as the moral perpetrator of the fraud of the electoral body.

He has asked for the trial to be held, denying the accusation that he was the real leader of the party, while during the explanations given by the defendants at the prosecutor’s investigation stage, they denied the accusations.

The next act is at the Electoral Court

In any case, Stiga’s testimony is awaited with interest, but the criminal outcome of the specific trial has a wider significance, as appeals against the specific Spartan MPs are already pending in the Electoral Court, which if accepted, which is likely, will lead to the exclusion of parliament, at least two of them, thus changing the parliamentary landscape by at least two MPs.

Moreover, the Electoral Court had requested the criminal case file for the Spartan party and any development of it will be taken into account for the decision on whether or not specific members of the party in question remain in the Parliament. In case they fall, these seats will be redistributed based on the balance of the political parties in the specific constituencies.

However, the issue of total disqualification of all the Spartans’ deputies from the Electoral Court is not raised in any case, as was spread by various sides.
