Trial of Samire Lymani for the Murder of Aurélie Vaquier in 2021: Dissection of the Case at the Assizes of Hérault

the essential At the Assizes of Hérault will be dissected, from Tuesday January 9, the Aurélie Vaquier affair, named after this 39-year-old woman found immured in an improvised sarcophagus in 2021. Her companion, Samire Lymani, whose justifications were marred by inconsistencies, denies outright and affirms that an unknown person would have killed her.

Her body was found sunk under a concrete slab, slippers on her feet, at the marital home in Bédarieux (Hérault): three years after the discovery of the body of Aurélie Vaquier is being held this Tuesday, January 9, at the Hérault assizes, the trial of his companion Samire Lymani, a troubled personality whose justifications will be scrutinized until January 17.

According to this 41-year-old man, judged “inadequate and inconsistent” by the investigation, it was an unknown person who killed Aurélie, before making this improvised sarcophagus. Placed in preventive detention since the discovery of the body, he faces life imprisonment.

Strangled and walled up

In 2021, Aurélie Vaquier, thirty-year-old described as “solar” and sparkling, seller of soaps and revitalizing stones in the markets, mysteriously disappears. She leaves behind her, as the only message, an SMS surprisingly full of spelling mistakes. She announced her intention to leave Bédarieux temporarily, and spoke of her desire to retire to write.

Samire Lymani, who was not accused at the time, was slow to report her disappearance: he did not go to the police station until February 23, 2021, almost a month after, according to him, Aurélie had given signs of life for the last time. .

A month later, the anguish of those close to the Héraultaise gave way to fear: her corpse, with slippers still on her feet, was discovered at the couple’s home, under a concrete slab poured under a wooden platform covered with a pile of objects. According to the hypothesis “favored” by forensic doctors, Aurélie Vaquier would have been strangled…

Samire Lymani, “chameleon personality”…

The profile of Samire Lymani – immediately placed in police custody – was scrutinized by investigators. Aged 39 at the time, in the process of divorce and father of two children, this former French junior wrestling champion came from Ain in Hérault, in the summer of 2020. It was there that he met Aurélie, before quickly moving in with her, in Bédarieux, a town of some 6,000 inhabitants in Haut-Languedoc.

Both had planned to create a point of sale for organic cosmetic products manufactured by the young woman, but the couple had been arguing for several weeks.

…incoherent defense

Upon discovering the body, Samire Lymanie denies it outright. “Throughout the investigation, the accused affirmed that he was not involved in any way in the death, (…) despite numerous elements against him”, underlined last year the prosecutor of Béziers, Raphaël Balland.

Several elements overwhelm him: the late reporting of the disappearance, firstly, but also this “hasty” departure from Bédarieux on January 28, 2021, to go to the Lyon region and retrieve, according to him, his son and a nephew.

Stranger still, Samire Lymani had continued to use his partner’s bank card, while making derogatory remarks about her and assiduously frequenting dating sites.

The conditions in which Aurélie Vaquier was walled up also raise questions: the investigators are in fact convinced that the concrete coffin in which she was found was indeed made by her companion. According to them, such a work would have required at least “six hours of work by a qualified mason not subject to any particular state of panic or stress.”

Killed, according to him, during his absence

Refuting all of these elements, Samire Lymani explains that his partner was killed during his absence from Bédarieux, between January 28 and February 6. And he only discovered this slab, under the platform, on April 7, when the body was discovered.

“It’s complicated for him to explain what happened when he wasn’t there,” he defended this Monday, to Free Midday, Me Mathieu Monfort, Samire Lymani’s lawyer. “The concreting of the body was hidden under a floor, a carpet, a stage and belongings… When he returns, he does not try to find out if any work has been done.”
