Mönchengladbach The trial of the murder of three-year-old Greta began on Tuesday at the Mönchengladbach regional court. An educator is accused of compressing the girl’s chest until she stopped breathing in April this year in Viersen am Niederrhein.

The 25-year-old German is accused of murdering the child and mistreating those wards in eight other cases. Because even in other daycare centers, the young woman is said to have squeezed children’s chests tightly, putting their lives at risk. These cases only became known through the investigation after Greta’s death.

The case had attracted a lot of attention, especially because the accumulation of alleged abuse had not been recognized for so long. The woman also had considerable problems in her various jobs: According to the indictment, superiors and colleagues unanimously described her as unsuitable for the profession of educator – but she continued to work.

The motive for the acts is unclear. According to earlier information from the public prosecutor’s office, the defendant has not yet commented. The district court wants to hear more than 20 witnesses in the proceedings. A total of 19 days of negotiations are planned until the beginning of March.
