On Tuesday, November 10th, 2020 at 10.15 a.m. in front of the Essen-Steele district court, there will be a hearing against the Essen lawyer Roland Meister because of “holding a prohibited meeting”. In July 2020, the court fined him € 4,800 for anti-fascist protests on December 12, 2019 at the Steeler Christmas market, against which an appeal was lodged.
On 12.12. In 2019, around 30 anti-fascists gathered spontaneously, with the encouragement of visitors to the Christmas market, to oppose the weekly parades of the fascist “Steeler boys” across the Christmas market, the massive increase in attacks on anti-fascists in Essen and the obstruction of the legitimate, legitimate Protest anti-fascist activities by the Essen police.
On behalf of the participants, lawyer Roland Meister contacted the police and asked them to take action against the fascist march of the so-called “Steeler boys”. He criticized the downplaying of their marches as “walks”. The police then cleared the way for them. This is not surprising, since closer ties between the Essen police officers and the “Steeler boys” have become known.
At the instigation of the police state security, a criminal complaint was then made against Roland Meister for allegedly conducting a prohibited rally, on the basis of which the fine of € 4,800 was imposed. The attempt to unceremoniously declare the local lawyer negotiating with the police to be the “leader of the meeting” of a prohibited rally constitutes an attack on the democratic right of assembly and is unacceptable.
Roland Meister is a nationally respected anti-fascist lawyer who has been active in the field of asylum and migration law and political criminal law for more than 40 years. Roland Meister is a well-known representative of the MLPD. Because of his communist attitude, he was banned from working and doing doctoral studies in Bavaria. He represented victims of police arbitrariness and fascist violence in a large number of cases. He is also known to many Essenes as a long-time registrant and moderator of the Essen Monday demonstration.
Before the trial, there will be a solidarity rally in front of the district court on Grendplatz from 9.15 a.m. You will then be informed of the outcome. Of course, we take measures to protect against corona.
