Très bien: 7 things you probably didn’t know about Emily in Paris

Lily Collins plays the title role of Emily Cooper, a Chicago marketing executive who is pursuing her dream job in Paris, in the streaming service’s latest flagship. With her American energy and fresh ideas she tries to win over her new employees, but she doesn’t speak French and that turns out to be a big one misstep.

1. The series is full of romantic scenes shot in iconic beautiful places in Paris such as Café de Flore, where Emily love interest bump into Jardin du Luxembourg, where her friend Mindy sings the stars from heaven. No use was made of a green screen, all episodes were actually filmed in the city of love. With the exception of some scenes shot in the nearby Loire Valley, where the chateau of Camille’s family is located.

2. Not only the dazzling decor is reason enough to devour the show all at once, but Emily’s daring outfits as well. Costume designer Patricia Field, who previously showed her gift in Sex and the City, was responsible for all of Emily’s outfits and took inspiration from the film An American in Paris from 1951.

3. Fun fact: although main character Emily doesn’t speak a word of French, Lily grew up with the French language. Unfortunately, it has fallen a lot in recent years, but since the show, the actress has picked it up again. Now she says she even dreams in French again.

4. While there are plenty of boys and girls around the world who look up to the 31-year-old actress, Lily herself is a huge Audrey Hepburn fan. The stylish outfit she wore during her visit to the opera is therefore a tribute to Hepburn in Funny Face.

5. And it doesn’t stop there: the black tulle skirt that Emily wears in episode two is an ode to Carrie Bradshaw, who wore a similar skirt during the finale of Sex and the City – which coincidentally also happened in Paris.

6. Another nod to SATC are Emily’s earrings with her name. These are inspired by the iconic necklace Sarah Jessica Parker wore as Carrie.

7. The Pierre Cardeau dress that Emily models in episode nine is a true Haute Couture, designed by Stephane Rolland. Extra nice – especially for Lily – is that the designer afterwards sent a ‘clean’ dress to the actress as a gift.
