The club, which struggled to find its way among the Slovak elite in the spring, is fighting for a leadership position in the top competition at the beginning of the new season.
And he has the signature of both newcomers, who were called up by coach Francesco Calzona for the September national team meeting.
Jakub Kadák is a pupil, he was the league’s best scorer in the 2021/22 season. Today, as a 22-year-old player of the Swiss FC Luzern, he returns after a long-term injury. And in great shape.
Matúš Kmeť is currently among the most productive players in his team. However, his nomination comes unexpectedly.
He is playing in a completely new position and was not in the sights of the national team coaches until a few months ago.
After the big match against Portugal (0:1), the Slovak team will play another home match against Liechtenstein (September 11 at 8:45 p.m.).
Although Peter Pekarík was among the best on the field on Saturday, he finished with self-denial. The substitutes, among whom is Kmeť, might get a chance.
The nomination pleased everyone
“It was very pleasing. I also wrote him a text message, congratulated him and wished him well and to enjoy football in the company of great personalities,” Marián Zimen, Kmeť’s coach in Trenčín last season, told Sportnet.

“I am most pleased that every match I see more and more people in the audience. That was one of the goals for which we came to Trenčín,” noted the Serbian coach and added:
“Many boys are now leaving for our national teams. We wished them good luck and good matches in the national teams. I hope they will come back healthy and we will continue our work.”
Calzona did not ask about Kmeť
Coach Calzona has been to the Trenčín stadium several times. In the fall, he watched several players, and invited four to the December camp.
