CASTELFRANCO (TREVISO) – During the last storm a tree had fallen on a moving car and the lawyer driving had a miraculous escape. Six days later, the Municipality of Castelfranco ordered an emergency felling of the damaged and unsafe lime trees in Via Brigata Cesare Battisti. The avenue leading to the train station will be closed today (14 October) and tomorrow (15 October) for safety measures “to protect public safety” as stated in the municipal ordinance.

The lime tree collapsed on the moving car
The accident occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday 8 October, when the city was lashed by rain and gusts of wind. Under the blows of the bad weather, a tree had suddenly collapsed in the middle of the road, which was very busy at the time, hitting the Lexus of the lawyer Vanessa Spoladore, who has an office nearby, head on. As luck would have it, the plant hit the hood, without scratching the windshield. The woman, alone in the car, came out unharmed but in shock: «It was a miracle that I or someone else didn’t get hurt. A few fractions of a second more would have been enough and the consequences would certainly have been worse. I don’t want to imagine if there had been someone on a bicycle or motorbike in my place.”
The collapsed lime tree was registered as a monumental tree. After the serious episode, the Municipality carried out an urgent check on the health of the plants, cutting down those at risk.
