A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the private clinics, the State Bank of Mauritius Limited and MauBank Limited. This is a special interest-free loan program for patients undergoing treatment in private clinics. The signing took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health on Friday 16 December 2022.
Initially affected are eighteen private clinics and two credit institutions, announced the Minister of Health. This list is set to grow, he said. The program will be a tripartite collaboration between private clinics, lenders and the Ministry of Health for the benefit of patients.
Minister Jagutpal explained that those wishing to benefit from this program must, in advance, obtain a medical certificate issued by a doctor and stating the need to undergo treatment. They will then need to get a quote from a licensed private hospital or clinic. The bank concerned will then grant the credit and submit a form for the repayment of the interest amount to the Ministry of Health.
The list of treatments excluded from the plan includes cosmetic surgery, hair transplantation, liposuction and any other treatment that may be approved by the Ministry of Health and the Association of Private Clinics. The Ministry will soon publish this list of treatments not covered by this programme.
