Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism Honors 15 Commercial Establishments in “Treasures of the City” Initiative
Abu Dhabi, UAE – The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi has recognized and honored 15 commercial establishments in the emirate as part of its annual “Treasures of the City” initiative. This initiative aims to acknowledge the significant role these establishments have played in shaping the urban and cultural fabric of Abu Dhabi for over two decades.
During a special ceremony held on June 22 at the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation, His Excellency Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, presented the “Treasures of the City” medal to the honored establishments. These establishments have left a lasting impact on the hearts of Abu Dhabi residents and visitors, serving as points of contact that embrace various segments of society.
The list of honored commercial establishments includes Abu Al-Afwal Cafeteria, Al-Ghosn Al-Akhdar Trading Establishment, Al-Masoud Jewelry, Chaban Bog Restaurant, Budaiya Opticals, Cairo Textile Exhibition, Al-Alamein Restaurant and Refreshments, Al-Arab Restaurant, Kabab Abukabi Restaurant and Grills, Lebanese Roastery, Al-Sultan Restaurant and Grills, Light Shop Al Shams Electronics, Gulf Bride Salon, Cool & Cool Flowers, and National Tailor Shop.
The “Treasures of the City” initiative aligns with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi’s strategy to preserve elements of modern heritage by shedding light on these treasures and ensuring their activities continue for present and future generations. These attractions include cafes, restaurants, bakeries, tailors, fabric stores, perfumes, jewelry, photography studios, and more.

Following the success of the “Treasures of the City” initiative in the past year, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi opened nominations for its second session in October 2022. The initiative received 460 nominations, which were reviewed and evaluated by a committee of specialists according to precise criteria.
