The very popular trdelník, which many consider to be a traditional Czech delicacy, but according to historians, originates from the Transylvania region, conquered another goal. It hit the supermarket shelves.
Trdelník has been a huge trend for years, not only at Christmas markets. There are countless stalls that offer it even during the year. Today you can also have it in a salty version, as we already reported last year.
Let’s add to the popularity of trdelník that a few years ago it managed to drive the whole world crazy and became so-called viral. Prague sellers have modernized this recipe and added, for example, Nutella, ice cream or pieces of fruit. Photos and videos of this dish quickly began to spread on social networks, and for a while it seemed that Prague was not a centipede, but a trdelník.

Anyone who has visited the center of Prague in recent years has definitely not missed the “traditional” trdelník. The smell of this sweetness can be felt literally at every step.…
As we have now registered, the trdelník is also sold in the Lidl store. Right among the baked goods, where you can find rolls, kaiser or pizza bags. Spokesperson Eliška Froschová Stehlíková specified that it is not a complete novelty, it has been on sale for about one year and is manufactured in the Czech Republic. According to the label, it is produced in Pekárná Hořovice.
“We follow current trends and try to reflect the wishes of customers. Customers welcomed this news and there is interest in trdelník among them. We offer it as part of promotional offers several times a year, in all our stores,” comments a Lidl spokesperson.
The price of one piece weighing 85 grams is 28.30 crowns. It is therefore significantly cheaper than in the center of Prague. We currently do not deal with the quality of thawed baked goods.
During the Christmas markets, the price of the classic trdelník was around ninety crowns, the addition with Nutella was about thirty crowns more expensive. Outside of Christmas, the already mentioned “noble” variants with ice cream and fruit are also available for more than 150.
The prices of trdelník during the Christmas holidays were, for example, very similar in Germany. For example, it cost five euros in Regensburg.

The recipe for this sweet came from the shop Lidl also together with chef Roman Paulus. The well-known gastronomist used semi-coarse flour, whole milk, eggs, powdered sugar, yeast, butter, lard, granulated sugar and cinnamon for production.
“In our offer, we always try to offer a mix of traditional and non-traditional products to ensure a wide choice for those interested. Customers also like Lidl thanks to innovations and novelties, such as the French baguette or burek,” says Froschová Stehlíková for Lidl.
