The reason why a concert by rapper Travis Scott was canceled on Friday evening in the United States could lie in Ireland.
The famous record producer, who is Kylie Jenner’s ex-boyfriend, was forced to cancel his Chicago concert after his private jet became grounded in Ireland.
Scott was scheduled to perform Friday night at the United Center in Chicago as part of his “Utopia” world tour, inspired by his debut album of the same name.
After performing in Detroit on Tuesday evening, Scott flew to Saudi Arabia where he headlined the first day of the Soundstorm 2023 music festival. His private jet made a refueling stop in Shannon on the way to the event.
Although it could not be confirmed whether the chart-topping rapper was on board the flight, his Embraer Lineage 1000 jet arrived in Shannon from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for a refueling stop at around 1:50 p.m. Friday, before continuing his flight. in the United States shortly after.
However, it appears the crew reported a technical problem with the plane which they had to investigate. As a result, the flight departure was delayed.
Once the problem was apparently resolved, the flight took off again from Shannon at around 4:20 p.m. The estimated eight-hour flight would have seen his plane land in Chicago around 6:20 p.m. local time, less than two hours before his concert was set to begin.
Shortly after the flight took off, using its registration N713TS as its call sign, air traffic controllers asked the crew why they had deviated from their initial departure instructions. The crew said they were given different instructions. The monitors confirmed that they would have to report on this.
About 15 minutes after departure, the crew informed controllers that they would have to return to Shannon. It is understood the crew reported a problem with their flight management system.
The flight crew confirmed they would need to burn fuel before landing at Shannon. This was to ensure that the aircraft would land within the landing weight limits safely. The aircraft entered a holding pattern over East Clare for a period before commencing an approach to Shannon.
The crew also confirmed that they did not require any assistance on arrival and the aircraft landed safely at 5:18 p.m.
After more than five hours on the ground, the flight took off from Shannon again at 10:40 p.m. for Stansted Airport in England.
Although the flight could be tracked on some plane tracking apps, the identity and other details about the plane and the flight were not available. This is often done at the request of the aircraft owner/operator.
In the United States, where Scott was due to take the stage, thousands of fans were stunned when the concert was canceled with just hours to go.
There were no comments from Scott about the cancellation on his social media accounts Friday evening.
According to the venue’s X account (formerly Twitter): “The Travis Scott show at the United Center scheduled for tonight has been postponed. All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date once announced. More information will be posted here and emailed directly to ticket holders as it becomes available.
The reason for the postponement was not specified.
