The comfortable ICE trains are known for transporting travelers at top speed from Brussels or Liège to dozens of German cities. But for those who were on the train from Brussels to Frankfurt on Sunday evening, nothing came of it.
“A train that had left around 5:30 p.m. suddenly refused service in the railway tunnel between Chimay and Thimister-Clermont,” says NMBS spokesperson Bart Crols. Travelers were stuck there until around 9 p.m. and testified that they had to wait on a cold train. “Then they were towed to the Liège station by an auxiliary locomotive. From there the passengers could continue their journey.”
