Travelers at Frankfurt Airport have to expect restrictions and cancellations this Wednesday due to a warning strike at the Wisag aircraft handler.
Frankfurt am Main – Just before Christmas striking ground crew at Frankfurt Airport caused flight cancellations.

Most of the workers at the Wisag handler stayed at home as announced, said strike leader Mathias Venema of the Verdi union. The warning strike that started early on Wednesday morning should last until the end of operations.
The background to this is an unresolved collective bargaining dispute over the working conditions of the 600 or so employees.
According to a Wisag spokeswoman, around 40 flights were canceled in consultation with the airlines, while 32 connections were to take place with the help of an emergency service. The service provider is responsible for around 15 percent of the traffic at Germany’s largest airport and handles the jets of many companies outside the Lufthansa Group.

Lufthansa itself had to close its First Class Terminal for its top customers on Wednesday because, among other things, the shuttle service to the apron is provided by Wisag.
During the first warning strike at the end of October, dozens of flights were also canceled. Verdi had not planned a rally because of the current Corona situation.

In the negotiations, the union is calling for working hours to be reduced by two and a half hours to 37.5 hours with full wages and a table increase of at least 90 euros from next year. A claim for a 1500 euro corona premium had been dropped. The union reports that the workforce is under heavy strain because Wisag dismissed around a third of the workforce a year ago.
Wisag negotiator Michael Richter had accused the Verdi officials of “losing reality”. “In such a situation, trying to push through double-digit wage demands with a crowbar on the backs of the Christmas vacationers is irresponsible and excessive.” The company offered wage increases totaling 18 percent for the next three years. More is not possible.
According to Verdi, the next round of negotiations has been agreed for January 11th.
