A dangerous overtaking maneuver ended for an Opel driver on Sunday evening around 6.30 p.m. in the field next to the L524. The person who caused the accident, who was sitting in a white van, drove on. The 40-year-old Opel driver was driving his gray Vectra from Frankental-Eppstein to the Am Römig industrial estate. On this route, a previously unknown white van overtook him and, according to the police, touched the car on the left side of the vehicle. The driver came off the road to the right and touched down in the field next to it. The white van continued on its way towards the L527. All three inmates of the Opel were rushed to hospital with back pain. The Opel was recovered by a Frankenthal towing service. The property damage is estimated at 2000 euros.
Police: Not a trivial offense
The police point out that unauthorized removal from the scene of the accident and, in this case, negligent bodily harm are not trivial offenses. The fugitive driver has to expect a fine or imprisonment of up to three years and under certain circumstances the loss of his driving license. In addition, he can lose the comprehensive coverage of his vehicle insurance and his insurance company may be involved in settling the third-party damage.
