Transportation. SNCF puts a recently abandoned Caen-Paris line back into service

From this Thursday, May 5, the Caen-Paris line at 2:20 p.m. will resume service after being canceled last March. The SNCF evokes “a return of passenger traffic at the beginning of the afternoon from Caen.”

This announcement will delight many travelers. The SNCF has just announced the return of the Caen-Paris line from 2:20 p.m. from Thursday May 5, 2022. This line had been canceled last March by the SNCF, the company noting a “significant drop in attendance of 24% in 2021 and 10% in 2022 in Normandy trains due to the generalization of teleworking, the reduction in travel by professionals and foreign tourists”, she says in her press release.

However, the SNCF indicates a “return of passenger traffic at the beginning of the afternoon from Caen to Paris Saint-Lazare during the week”identified thanks to their counting system on their Krono + trains (Paris-Caen-Cherbourg, Paris-Trouville/Deauville, Paris-Rouen-Le Havre) and feedback from associations.

Thus, from this Thursday, May 5, 2022 the train Caen (2:20 p.m.) – Paris (4:31 p.m.) will resume service.

“It’s a very good thing, they were responsive because the decision was taken yesterday and the train resumes tomorrow”, reacts Pierre Dumont, president of the Union of users of Paris-Cherbourg (UDUPC). The latter had alerted to the problem of the cancellation of this afternoon train when the decision had been taken: “These are very used trains! There is a strong demand from users on these schedules. We ended up with too many people and people who could no longer take tickets.”
