The Transportation Minister of Indonesia, Budi Karya Sumadi, successfully closed and evaluated the 2023 Integrated Eid al-Fitr Transportation Coordination Post, which was in operation from April 14 to May 2. The coordination post, which was situated at the Ministry’s headquarters, was tasked with monitoring the movement of Eid travelers at various transportation hubs such as bus stations, crossing ports, airports, seaports, railway operation areas/regional divisions, toll gates, and arterial roads. The Minister expressed his gratitude for the successful coordination of transportation during the Eid al-Fitr homecoming, which was carried out safely and memorably. While the implementation of homecoming for 2023 was largely successful, there were aspects that need to be evaluated further to improve handling for next year’s homecoming. According to the Minister, safety should be a top priority, and infrastructure should be improved. The Ministry has also proposed extending the number of lanes of the Cikopo-Palimanan (Cipali) Toll Road to three to allow for contraflow traffic instead of one-way traffic. The Ministry also expects the improvement of capacity and the number of fleets from ferry operators, airlines, and train operators. The Director General of Land Transportation of the Transportation Ministry suggested that the volume of traffic on toll roads during the 2023 Eid homecoming period reached 1,918,958 vehicles, an increase of 5.6 percent compared to the same period last year. The Ministry recorded that the volume of traffic on toll roads reached 2,065,831 vehicles during the return period, an increase of 6.5 percent compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.
