How do Ukrainians work as non-EUs in Europe?

Since 2017, there is an association agreement between the European Union and Ukraine, which means that Ukrainians no longer need a visa to enter the EU. But that doesn’t mean they can just work in the EU.

Poland and Lithuania, among others, have also concluded association agreements with Ukraine as individual member states. As a result, Ukrainians can apply for work permits in those countries. As soon as you work in an EU country, you have the right to free movement of people. This means that Polish trucks can drive in the Netherlands with Ukrainian drivers. In 2021, almost 75,000 work permits have been issued in the transport sector in Poland alone, most of them to Ukrainians
