PIPE – [update 13:20 uur] On Tuesday morning, a silo filled with chalk fell over on the site of the Belgian cable producer Nexans in Buizingen. The silo ended up on top of a truck that overturned. The driver of the truck was first missing, later he was found dead, Belgian media report.
The accident happened at the back of the nexans site on the Alsembergsesteenweg in Buizingen. The driver had just parked his truck to load or unload when one of the silos in the area toppled over. The silo ended up on top of the truck. This caused the truck to overturn. Emergency services were unable to locate the driver of the truck, but he was later found dead.
It is not yet known what caused the silo to fall over, but the strong wind may have played a role.
