Transport Online – More than 20 buses and several trailers and chassis went up in smoke in a major fire [+foto’s]

SITTENSEN – In Sittensen, Germany, a large fire raged in the storage of a bus dealer in the night from Saturday to Sunday.

When the fire brigade arrived, a hall with several buses, chassis and trailers was on fire. The hall was a storage shed of a bus dealer.

Immediately, several firefighters wearing respiratory protection from both sides went against the flames. The water supply on site was a pain as the site is set back from the road a bit. Hose lines had to be laid over great distances in order to have sufficient fire extinguishing water on site.

Due to the rapid spread, the fire brigade quickly scaled up to get more men on site.

The extinguishing work was particularly difficult because some buses had a gas tank. This repeatedly led to explosions that were heard throughout the city.

In the end, the fire could be prevented from spreading to other equipment in the hall. Employees of the company were quickly on site to drive the other vehicles out of the hall. So that the emergency services could reach the burning chassis and trailers.

After more than three hours, the fire was largely extinguished and extensive post-extinguishing work had to be carried out. The burnt-out buses were foamed with extinguishing foam to extinguish the last fires.

Repeated checks have been carried out with several thermal imaging cameras.

No one was injured in this large-scale operation.

Due to the heavy smoke development, public warnings had to be issued via warning apps and radio announcements. Residents had to keep windows and doors closed.

Warning signs were placed on the adjacent Autobahn 1 to warn road users of the smoke.

Police are now investigating how the fire started.

The fire service cannot comment on the extent of the damage. More than twenty buses and several trailers and chassis were reduced to ashes in the fire.
