BREDA – Hundreds of people who visited the two-day Ploegendienst festival near Breda later tested positive for the corona virus. Of all the people who received a positive test result, at least 424 had been to the festival on the Galderse Meren, the GGD confirms after reporting by BN deStem.
Of the people who tested positive afterwards, it cannot be said with certainty that they contracted the virus at the festival. On the other hand, it could also be that even more people have been infected at the festival, which was attended by about 10,000 people on 3 and 4 July.
“Our picture is not completely complete. Because the number of positive results increased so quickly, we were unable to carry out a full source and contact investigation for a day and a half. It is therefore unknown for some of the people where they may have become infected,” explains a spokeswoman for GGD West Brabant. The GGD thought it was most important to reach everyone who had tested positive as soon as possible and to give instructions.
Of the 424 infected festival-goers, about 70 percent came from the region, the remaining 30 percent from another region.
The spokeswoman for the GGD says that the number of infections among people under the age of 30 has increased sharply in any case, also in the West Brabant region. “We also see a lot of clusters through other encounters. Festivals are now featured, but there was a very strong increase in other places as well.”
People were only allowed to enter the festival with a corona ticket. The fact that this system was not watertight has also been shown in various other places in the country. Tests were allowed to be administered up to 40 hours in advance and no period was required after full vaccination to allow the vaccine to take effect. That alone made it possible for people who carried the virus to gain access. There were also stories about QR codes tampering.
Due to the explosive increase in the infection figures, the cabinet has banned all events where people do not keep their distance for the time being. The nightclubs must also remain closed next month.
