SWEETERMEER – When a possible curfew comes into effect, there must be an exception for logistics and freight traffic. “Transport and logistics play a vital role in keeping society running. Transport continues 24 hours a day. An exception is necessary for this,” said the Transport and Logistics Netherlands (TLN) trade association. The organization also believes that the commuter traffic of employees in that sector should be taken into account.
Without the exception, the supply to many pharmacies, shops and supermarkets will stop, according to TLN, and that is not an option. “Distribution centers are supplied day and night, so you cannot suddenly impose restrictions. Then you disrupt crucial supply flows,” explains a spokesman.
Trade association evofenedex, which represents tens of thousands of logistics entrepreneurs in the Netherlands, has announced that it expects an exception to be made for crucial transport. “Just like with previous lockdowns and border closures with the supply of medicines and food. We’re not worried about it,” said a spokeswoman.
