LG Display unveils new technology at CES
57 inch dashboard for self contained driver seat
LG Display has introduced a self-driving concept car with a “sliding organic light-emitting diode (OLED)” that hides when the screen is dry and pops up when in use.
LG Display unveiled several new technologies by setting up a dedicated booth for the first time in the West Hall, the mobility technology exhibition hall of CES 2023, the world’s largest exhibition of information technology (IT) and home appliances.
An 18-inch sliding OLED has been applied to the interior design of the future self-driving car unveiled by LG Display. This is the first public exhibition in the display industry. The screen is usually hidden in a rolled-up state on the ceiling of the rear seat, but when used for watching movies, watching the news or video conferencing, the screen expands downwards. The window features a 55-inch clear OLED, so you can display news, weather, commercials, etc. in real time while watching the scenery outside the window. A 57-inch super-large liquid crystal display (LCD) has been applied to the dashboard, where the steering wheel has disappeared due to the introduction of autonomous driving.
LG Display has also introduced LTPS LCD, a new technology that is beneficial in realizing high resolution by making it larger than existing LCDs. The largest 57-inch vehicle LCD in the industry can cover the entire dashboard from the driver’s seat to the front passenger seat.
