Authorities in Transnistria, the breakaway pro-Russian region of Moldova, said today that a drone struck a radar station at a military base, causing no significant damage or casualties.
It is emphasized that three weeks ago a similar incident had occurred.
“Today at 14:35 a drone attacked a military base of the Ministry of Defense of the Moldavian Republic of Transnistria, in the district of Rubnitsa, six kilometers from the border with Ukraine,” the separatists’ Ministry of State Security said in a statement.
“The target was a radar station that suffered minor damage and there are no casualties, while a team of investigators is working on the ground,” the same source added, without directly blaming Ukraine for the strike.

On March 17, Transnistria claimed that a drone sent from Ukraine struck a military base in the capital Tiraspol. This accusation was rejected by the Moldovan government, which denounced it as an attempt to cause panic. Kiev, for its part, accused Moscow of provocations in Transnistria.
The relationship between Transnistria and Russia
Russia has supported separatists in Moldova, a pro-European, Romanian-speaking country bordering Ukraine, since the 1990s. Regularly, Moscow states that Kiev and Chisinau are planning provocations or attacks in Transnistria. The authorities of the self-proclaimed “Republic” asked Russia in late February to take protective measures because it is under pressure from Moldova.
This region borders the Ukrainian province of Odesa, which Russian forces failed to capture when they invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Transnistria broke away after a brief 1992 war against the Moldovan army. Russia maintains a force of 1,500 men there, according to official figures.
