Transition table could be set up on Monday with outgoing government: Sheinbaum

Mexico City. President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum said that the coordination table for the transition between the outgoing federal government and the cabinet she appointed for her government, which will begin on October 1, could be set up on Monday.

After the bases for this process were published in the Official Gazette of the Federation, he explained that the transition table will be coordinated by the current Secretary of the Interior and the future head of this department, and will be made up of a collegiate body with the current Secretaries of the departments, and the people assigned to these positions.

“It will probably be on Monday or before (when) the table between Luisa María Alcalde and Rosa Icela Rodríguez is formally set up, and from there the calendars and all the normal procedures that occur when there is a transition will be determined,” he said this Thursday at a press conference in his transition house.

He stressed that both teams will meet as many times as necessary. He also explained that the activities he led before receiving the majority certificate were essentially covered with Morena resources.

Regarding the appointments of the next heads of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) and the Navy, which are still pending, she pointed out that in the case of both secretariats she has held meetings with the current secretaries. While calling for waiting for the times and protocols within these departments, she guaranteed that in these instances there will be a sufficient period for the transition with the secretaries she names.

“I am making an assessment of all those who can fill the position. In the case of the Sedena, they are division generals, in the case of the Navy, they are Admirals. So, I am making an assessment; the idea is that there can also be a transition period. That it is not the last day that they are appointed so that there can also be a transition period with the current general secretary, with Admiral secretary, for whom I have great respect and admiration for the work they have been developing. So, we are going to be respectful of their times and it would not be the last week, but it would be in September that I would be appointing based on this in-depth review,” he said.

When asked about the next general director of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), she said that she will announce on Monday who will lead the state-owned company. She also said that, as she has done this week, she will hold new meetings with her entire cabinet on Monday and Tuesday.
