Catch Kalife “Prairie Dao” Deceived the Lonely Butler, Extorted Money Using Secret Pictures
June 23, 2023 – The National Police Commander, Pol. Gen. Damrongsak Kittipraphat, has instructed the police to investigate and arrest Mr. Ekaphon, also known as Prairie Dao, for his involvement in extorting money from a lonely butler. The arrest was made at a room in Bangkok Yai, Bangkok, following an arrest warrant issued by the Nakhon Pathom Provincial Court.
The case dates back to 2021 when a violent transgender woman movement emerged. Mr. Ekaphon, one of the perpetrators, used social media platforms to deceive and manipulate others. He would hide on Twitter and post erotic photos, luring lonely men into a trap.
Once the victim was engaged in a chat conversation, Mr. Ekaphon would use various tricks to convince them to send explicit pictures. He would claim that he wanted to see the size of their penis for decision-making purposes. However, instead of keeping the pictures private, he would threaten to post them on social media or send them to the victim’s spouse unless they transferred money. Some victims were forced to transfer money multiple times a day, totaling more than 40,000 baht. The psychological toll on the victims was severe, with some even contemplating suicide.
During the investigation, it was discovered that Mr. Ekaphon was part of a larger criminal group. The police, led by Pol. Lt. Gen. Thiti Saeng, commander in chief, and the Metropolitan Investigation Team, worked diligently to apprehend the accused. The arrest took place while Mr. Ekaphon was doing a live broadcast in the room.
Mr. Ekaphon, who identifies as a transgender woman, denied all allegations, stating that he earns a living by going live on the M Live application, catering to an adult audience. He claimed that the offenses were committed by Mr. Piyachat, who had already been arrested.
Maj. Gen. Theeradet, who oversaw the investigation, expressed concern that there may be other criminal groups engaging in similar behavior, targeting vulnerable individuals such as butlers or depressed young men. The victims not only suffered financial losses but also endured emotional trauma that is difficult to heal. Some victims were too afraid to report the crimes, while others contemplated suicide to escape their past.
Maj. Gen. Theeradet urged the public to exercise caution when making friends or engaging in conversations online. He emphasized the importance of reporting any suspicious activities to the authorities. The police have set up a Facebook page, “Seub Nakornban IDMB,” where victims can provide information and seek assistance.
The police are committed to providing support and advice to victims, regardless of the severity of the case. Pol. Gen. Damrongsak and Pol. Lt. Gen. Thiti have made it a priority to address people’s suffering promptly.
