A creative Nigerian artist uses some natural ingredients and waste, which people have dispensed with, to create amazing paintings.
Nigerian artist Chibuike Ifedilichuko (37 years old) collects used aluminum cans and various trash and waste, and turns them into artwork to create portraits of some famous people.
The artist cleans and sterilizes cans after taking them out of the trash, as well as plastic tape, to create a canvas for his painting.
According to Chibuike, his goal is to create a community art gallery that works with aspiring creators to promote environmental causes.
Chibuiki also works as a photographer, graphic designer and printmaker, and has produced no fewer than 40 recycled artworks that have been shown in both domestic and foreign exhibitions. His paintings have sold for up to $1,000 apiece, after they went viral on social media.
He currently uses materials such as aluminium, wood, plastic, metal, copper wire, rope and syringe bottles to create abstract artwork and portraits. The rubbish bins in the artist’s neighborhood are an unconventional source of art supplies.
Speaking to CNN, Chibuike said, “People look at me as a crazy person when I go scavenge for trash, but I make a living out of it…and I work to create awareness to make our environment safe.”
The Nigerian artist plans to paint only environmentally conscious celebrities in the future, such as actor Leonardo DiCaprio and Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, according to the newspaper. Indian Express.
