The municipality continues its work to green all sectors of the city. A public meeting is planned for November 7 to present to residents the development of a large grassy area into a park in the Europe district.
“Providing a green space 300 meters from each Rémois and infusing it with the spirit of the Promenades”, such is the promise made by Arnaud Robinet as part of Reims Nature. Launched in 2021, this project has resulted, for two years, in the development of squares and parks in different districts of the city, like the Placette du Jard or the square on Boulevard des Belges, already delivered, Henri-Paris, François-Mauriac and Jean-Moulin parks, currently under construction, or the planetarium park and Place Luton, scheduled for 2024-25. The work currently carried out around the Saint-André church or Place Brouette is also part of this ambition which must provide a concrete response to global warming, marked by episodes of intense precipitation and high heat, by limiting the risks flooding and providing islands of freshness.
This long-term greening program continues today with the launch of consultation for the creation of a new park in the Europe district, on land formerly owned by Foyer Rémois. Shaped like a triangle, the plot in question has a surface area of 11,500 m2. It is bordered by rue Sadi-Lecointre, the route de Cernay and a railway line. On this largely grassy area, there are now groves, rows of trees and shrubs, but also asphalt surfaces, dirt paths and a car park. An aging children’s play area also exists at the southern tip, as well as the remains of what was a football pitch.
In order to present this project, a public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 7, at 6:30 p.m., at the Cernay-Europe neighborhood center (39, rue du Général-Carré). During this meeting, open to all upon registration via the reims.fr website, the municipality will present a diagnosis of the site, mentioning in particular “the social, environmental, technical and landscape issues of an operation which will total several hundred thousand ‘euros’. The city also intends to communicate with residents, “to collect both their wishes and the changes they would not like”. An online survey will be launched immediately. As for the materialization of the park, the city hopes to see construction begin at the end of 2024 for delivery at the end of 2025.
Projects also for Bois d’Amour and Guillaume-Apollinaire Park
Between now and December, two other projects resulting from this local development program will be launched in consultation. The city is planning a public meeting on November 25 on a redevelopment operation for the former Bois d’Amour residence site (accessible from Avenue Roger Salengro), and on December 2, a meeting for the redevelopment of Guillaume-Park. Apollinaire, which runs along Avenue de Champagne, opposite Mendès-France Park.
