The Ateliers du Bocage, located in the town of Pin in Deux-Sèvres, near Bressuire, have just received 50,000 mobile phones that a public institution wanted to get rid of. This integration company will give them a new life so that they can be used again.
To achieve this, the first operation is to check what state the phone is in. About forty tests are then launched: “We connect the phone to the computer, we then have software that checks the screen, if we hear well, if the microphone works if the fingerprint works” explains Ludivine, an integration employee. Those that are not reusable are recycled.
To carry out this work, the Bocage workshops have recruited 7 employees, including three on integration contracts. Of the 50,000 telephones received by the Atliers du Bocage, 30,000 should be saved. “It limits the environmental and social impact, it creates jobs for people in precarious situations.” explains the deputy director of the Ateliers du Bocage, But in addition to the ecological and social approach, the telephones will also be sold on the principle of suspended coffee. For a phone purchased for around 70 euros, another will be donated to an association like Emmaüs “They are in contact with people in a precarious digital situation or who do not have the financial means to acquire a telephone and a fortiori a smartphone. “says the deputy director. Of all the phones that will be given a second life, some will be sent to Ukraine and Turkey, in areas hit by the earthquake of February 6th.
