The embankments of the Château de Vincennes (Val-de-Marne) will give way to a pleasure garden. This decision was taken in order to make this fortified city more visible and to facilitate access for visitors with reduced mobility. On October 2, 2023, an agreement for this work was signed between the Ministry of the Armed Forces and the City.
The defensive glacis dating from the 19th century, located to the north of the building, will be completely removed. The embankments, which represented an obstacle between Avenue de Paris and the castle, will be leveled to create spaces worthy of this historic site. In addition, the 18 existing trees will be replaced by 9 hairy oaks and 36 Damascus plum trees, selected with the aim of offering a more resistant canopy better adapted to the challenges of global warming. Furthermore, the trees located at the bottom of the embankments and along Avenue de Paris will be preserved.
The project, estimated at 4 million euros, should begin in October 2024 and will last around fifteen months.
