“Transform pain into …”: Prince Harry takes on a new role as spokesman for mental health

“I firmly believe that focusing and prioritizing our mental fitness unlocks potential and opportunity that we never knew we had within us,” he writes. “As the Royal Marine Commandos say: ‘It’s a state of mind.’ We all have it in us ”, he added. “Being in tune with your mind and having a support structure around you is critical to finding your peak performance,” the 36-year-old continued. “What I have learned in my own life is the power to transform pain into purpose,” he said.

The four key areas

Harry listed the four key areas that he will focus on in fulfilling his new role: driving and raising awareness of mental fitness; guide BetterUp’s social mission and impact to bring the science of peak performance and human potential into the hands of people around the world; influence the vision of the platform, the community and the experience of BetterUp members; and expand the global BetterUp community.

“As BetterUp’s first Director of Impact, my goal is to foster critical dialogues around mental health, build caring and compassionate communities, and foster an environment for honest and vulnerable conversations,” he said. “And my hope is to help people develop their inner strength, resilience and confidence.” Meanwhile, Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, are also making moves when it comes to their charitable foundation, Archewell.
