FC Barcelona are determined to sign a new winger before the transfer window closes later this month.
At this stage, the favourite is Juventus’ Federico Chiesa, although many other options are being considered by Deco, the club’s sporting director, this summer.
One of the most unlikely targets is Jadon Sancho. According to Sport, Deco is keeping tabs on the 24-year-old’s situation. Manchester United have no intention of keeping him (PSG are reportedly big fans of the player), so a loan move could be an option.
Barca wants a winger
However, this avenue is extremely unlikely for Barcelona as Manchester United would require any club that takes Sancho on loan to assume 100% of his wages. Given that he would earn around £15m per season, this would make it a big no-go for the Catalans, who are already struggling to create any other wage space to sign their own players.
For now, Chiesa remains the obvious priority for FC Barcelona. Sancho is an unrealistic dream for Deco, and that will continue to be the case as long as the club’s financial problems remain as they are.
IN BRIEF
- Juventus’ Federico Chiesa is currently the favourite to join FC Barcelona, according to the club’s sporting director Deco.
- Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho is also a target, but his high salary makes a loan move to Barcelona unlikely.
- Despite the financial difficulties, Chiesa remains the priority to strengthen Barça’s attack.
